Shredding and disinfection

Our STERIPLUS™ systems are equipped with a technology that combines shredding and decontamination of waste by sterilisation.  A unique, fully integrated process, ideal for decontaminating your waste in complete safety for staff and environment.

The shredder TESASHRED™ was specially designed by Tesalys to treat biomedical waste. Robust and efficient, it transforms your waste into unrecognizable 8-10 mm pieces.

The shredder blades/knives move forward and backward at low speed. If a blockage occurs, the shredder automatically starts again in the opposite direction.

The waste is pushed towards the shredder by a plate that automatically goes down. The system is able to detect the level of waste in the shredding chamber to ensure that all waste has been properly shredded.

The shredded waste falls by gravity into the decontamination chamber. Liquids also flow by gravity into a specific receptacle at the bottom of the decontamination chamber, where they will be treated before being discharged.

After shredding,
the volume of solid waste is reduced
up to 80%, depending on the type of waste.

Shredding with the TESASHRED™ system turns waste into unrecognizable material as well as eliminating the mechanical risk.


Materials that can be shredded with STERIPLUS™ systems:

  • any type of soft or rigid plastic, rubber,
  • textiles, nonwovens, paper and cardboard,
  • metal (small size such as needles, scalpel blades, small surgical instruments…), 
  • glass,
  • human or animal tissue (such as placentas, biopsies) or
  • bone tissue (bone debris or small bones),
  • liquids.


Sterilisation DASRI

The decontamination process consists of a conventional autoclave/sterilization cycle with the following steps:

  • Pre-vacuum
    Air extraction by means of a vacuum pump. The air is very easily extracted from the shredded waste, which facilitates the penetration of steam as well as the homogeneity of the temperature during the sterilization tray. During this phase, the condensed material is blocked in the decontamination chamber. The exhaust air is considered to be potentially contaminated and is therefore filtered through a 0.2 µm filter before being discharged from the chamber.
  • Heating 
    The steam produced by the steam generator, integrated in the device, is injected to heat the chamber as well as the solid and liquid waste. Steam is injected from the bottom of the vessel and the temperature control sensor is located in the upper part of the vessel, which ensures that the steam has spread and heated the solid and liquid waste.
  • Decontamination (sterilization) at 135°C, processing time/sterilization tray: 10 or 20 min
    The length of the sterilization tray can be adapted according to local requirements. During this phase, the temperature is homogeneous throughout the treatment chamber to ensure decontamination of the solid waste (in the upper part of the chamber). Liquids are stored in the receptacle at the bottom of the chamber until the end of the decontamination phase and are therefore also heat-treated. They will only be discharged when the cycle is fully completed.
  • Cooling and return to atmospheric pressure
    Steam is released from the unit until atmospheric pressure is reached. The steam is condensed, cooled and discharged through the drain hose into the sewer system. The decontaminated liquids are also cooled and discharged into the sewer.
